The Gentle Way

The latest stop on the “Literary Giants I Had yet to Read” was Truman Capote’s novella “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”.  This is a short story about a young writer and his encounters/fascination with a neighbor, who happens to be a prostitute.

This was an enjoyable read and I’m glad I picked it up.  Next time I find myself at a bookstore, I must remember to seek out “In Cold Blood”.

I just started the completely depressing “Night” by Elie Wiesel.  This is a book that I started reading one night when I returned to my mother’s house in Iowa City after a few too many cocktails.  Picked it up w/out knowing about it…thinking I would soon fall asleep.  I nearly read 100 pages that night and had to force myself to put it down to grab some shut eye.  While disturbing, (imagery of SS soldiers throwing babies into the air and using them as target practice, made me want to vomit) I have a hard time putting it down.  It makes me feel silly for complaining about the things that stress me out.
