Bush at War

I flipped the last page of Bob Woodard’s first of three books on the Bush administration War series a couple of nights ago.

The first qualifier that I’ll put out is that this one is not a “Bush Basher”.

Woodward writes about the events following the 9/11 attacks of the National Security Council.  The steps that led to the war in Afgan.

It was interesting on so many levels.

  1. I had no idea what an Outsider Powell was in the cabinent.
  2. The coordination of a war is f’in complex times infinity
  3. The pissing contest between the agencies for political posturing is 80% of #2.
  4. The media is absolutely necessary, but we as consumers of media need to do a better job of filtering those clamoring for hysterics.

I was really glad that this didn’t take a Pro War or Anti War stance.  What else to expect from Woodward though?  It’s crazy to read the detail of the relationships between Bush, Rice, Rumsfeld, Cheney and Powell.

While this doesn’t Bush bash, Rumsfeld does not come out so clean.

I plan on checking out the other two Bush War books in the near future.  However, I need to mix it up and I’m going to re examine “To Kill a Mockingbird” next.
