The “Competitive Analysis” Meeting

Today there was a meeting on my work calendar.  11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  A 6-hour meeting.  On a Friday.

But alas, this was a good thing.

“Competitive Analysis” was bringing our laptops up to the meeting room, where a non work computer was hooked up to an LCD projector…and broadcasting the NCAA tournament games.

Not only was this a most excellent way to finish out what has been a week that has been far from most excellent…but I got to witness the power of Slingbox for the first time.

I must say I am uber impressed.

Here’s the setup:

  • Dude has an air-card hooked up to his laptop.
  • Air-card pulls cellular internet signal to pickup the Slingbox broadcast.
  • As I was blown away as he showed me how he controls his tv in his house and picks up the signal on the laptop…this was only the beginning.
  • Dude has family in:
    • Chicago
    • Kansas City
    • Twin Cities
  • He pulled out the Slingbox manager, and showed me that he has slingboxes in these four cities.

So when the Milwaukee CBS affiliate was not broadcasting the Missouri game, ol boy picked up the signal from his slingbox in Kansas City and we were watching the Tigers.

I now think Slingbox is cooler than my Time Capsule.
